Bodies found in Ormond Beach home identified

Police discover bodies while investigating suspicious incident

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – Two bodies were found Sunday night inside a Volusia County home, police said.

The bodies of Heather Rasumoff, 44, and Gary Smith, 58, both of Ormond Beach, were found around 9 p.m. at a home on Hunters Run Circle in Ormond Beach.

"They were boyfriend and girlfriend. They did not reside together. The female lived there and it was her family who arrived on scene," said Ofc. Keith Walker.

"It is just unbelievable," said Alan Lazar who lives nearby and said Rasumoff, describing her as a sweet, gentle lady, helped manage the townhomes and moved into the area about five months ago.

Police said Rasumoff got recently divorced and the couple was dating for four months.

"We checked both of their addresses and there was no history of us responding to either address," said Walker.

Investigators searched the house but won't say exactly what they found and will not be releasing the 911 call at this time. They can only say it was an isolated incident.

"It's just very unnerving to know that something like that could happen, especially when they eventually will find out what the reasons might be," said Lazar.

Police said an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday with the medical examiner to find out how the couple died. Investigators also said Rasumoff had two older children who did not live at the home.

Investigators said they're working to determine what led to the deaths.

"There is no cause for safety concerns for the area," police said in a statement.

No other details have been released.
