AVALON PARK, Fla. – The man who developed one of the biggest communities in Central Florida says he will build a high school in Avalon Park to open next year.

Beat Kahli tells Local 6 that he's signed a deal with the No. 1 charter school operator in the country, Academica, to build the sixth-grade to 12th-grade school in the heart of downtown Avalon Park.

Kahli says it will relieve overcrowding at Timber Creek High School, which is more than 1,500 students over capacity.

"Quality schools are important to our residents and partnering with a company like Academica, which has a proven track record of success, addresses a critical need as our community continues to grow," Beat Kahli, president & CEO, Avalon Park Group, said in a release. "By next school year, Avalon Park will provide the highest quality of education anywhere in the region."

When complete, the new school will be at the corner of Avalon Lake Drive and Avalon Park East Boulevard and will include a gymnasium.

Kahli announced last month he's also building a kindergarten through eighth-grade charter school in Avalon Park to relieve overcrowding at Avalon Middle School.

The relief middle school is not scheduled to open until 2017.
