Man charged with child abuse

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Volusia County deputies say a victim of a robbery was arrested after he brought his two children with him to a drug deal in Daytona Beach.

Charles McDowell, 54, was charged with child abuse in the Sunday night incident at Motel 6 on West International Speedway Boulevard.

According to deputies, McDowell first told them he was robbed of his wallet and keys in the parking lot, but later said that the gunman wasn't a stranger and he was trying to buy prescription pills from the gunman.

McDowell had two 6-year-old boys with him at the time of the robbery, deputies said. The children were turned over to their respective mothers, according to the release.

McDowell was booked into Volusia County jail.

The suspected robber has not been caught.
