U.S. 1 reopens in Cocoa after drug bust
Southbound lanes were closed from Dixon to Highland
COCOA, Fla. – Authorities in Cocoa reopened U.S. 1 after closing the roadway for a traffic stop involving a large amount of drugs.
The closure affected southbound lanes of U.S. 1 from Dixon Boulevard to Highland Drive.
Cocoa police said officers stopped a person Friday morning, and he fled on foot. After a short foot chase, he was arrested, police said.
The man's vehicle contained a large amount of methamphetamine, police said.
A device was also located in the vehicle, and it appeared to be a pipe bomb, according to police. The Brevard County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad destroyed the suspicious device, which was determined not to be a pipe bomb.
A firearm was also recovered from the culprit, police said.
