Pizzeria Uno server performs sex act in front of kids in bathroom, deputies say

Christopher Mercado, 29, previously served time for exposing himself

ORLANDO, Fla. – Orange County deputies arrested a server at a popular restaurant on Orlando's tourist mecca for exposing himself to children inside the pizzeria's bathroom.

The incident happened Sunday evening at Uno Pizzeria and Grill on International Drive.

Deputies said Christopher Mercado, 29, followed two young brothers under the age of 12 into the bathroom and performed a sex act in front of them. The boys, who were visiting from Texas, left the bathroom and told their mother what happened within 10 minutes. She then called 911, deputies said.

Local 6 News has learned Mercado was a registered sex offender before getting a job at the family-friendly restaurant.

According to court documents, Mercado has a history of exhibition that dates back to 2007. He was convicted of exposing himself and served time in prison. He was required to register as a sex offender upon his release.

Dee Hadley, the company's chief marketing officer, told Local 6 that the company only performs background checks on managers.

In a statement, Hadley said, "Customer and employee safety is our No. 1 priority. Once we became aware of the situation we quickly notified the appropriate law enforcement authorities and have continued to work with them. Given the sensitive nature of this matter, it is inappropriate for us to comment further, and we appreciate your understanding."

The company would not comment any further, except to say that Mercado does not work at the restaurant any longer.

Mercado is being held on $5,000 bond. A judge said if released, he cannot have any contact with children under 16 years old.
