Boy bitten by shark in Brevard County receives visitors in hospital
BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – Personnel from Brevard County Fire-Rescue, Brevard County Ocean Rescue and the Cocoa Beach Fire Department visited 11-year-old shark bite victim Lucas Vertullo at Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando on Thursday.
Local 6 news partner Florida Today reports Vertullo was presented with gifts that included department T-shirts, hats, a special coin and gift cards along with a lifeguard can signed by all of his rescuers that helped him.
In return, Vertullo gave each of the rescuers a baseball that featured his name and the words "Thank You."
Vertullo was swimming in waist deep water at Lori Wilson Park with his mother, when the shark bit his lower right leg, according to beach safety officials.
The 10-year-old Winter Springs boy was swimming in just a few feet of water when witnesses claim the estimated six foot bull shark bit down on his calf twice.
