DeLAND, Fla. – The Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test, or FCAT, science scores and End-of-Course results for biology, U.S. history and civics were released Friday for the school district of Volusia County.

School officials said the EOC results indicate outstanding achievement in each of the subject areas for Volusia, adding that the county exceeds the state in percentage of students passing in nearly every subject and grade level.

Algebra 1, algebra 2 and geometry Florida assessment results will be released at the conclusion of the state's validity study, officials said. Biology, geometry and U.S. history results are reported using scale scores and achievement levels.

The FCAT science assessments were administered in fifth and eighth grades. School officials said Volusia exceeded the state in both grade levels.

"Our students achieved outstanding results in each of these subject areas," Superintendent Tom Russell said. "I am pleased to see an increase in the percentage of students scoring at a level 3, which underscores our teachers' dedication to student achievement. I am very proud of our students and teachers for a job well done."
