FHP: At least 1 dead, another hurt after car strikes tree
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Florida Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a fatal accident that shut down all westbound lanes of the Beachline for a short time Saturday.
The accident happened just before 7 p.m. Saturday after heavy rain moved through the area.
One car went off the road and into a wooded area near Dallas Boulevard at mile marker 23, authorities said.
Troopers said the driver, 28-year-old Michael Sparks suffered a minor injury, but his passenger, 27-year-old Tracy Harmon was killed.
Troopers said Sparks was driving a Dodge Viper, when for unknown reasons he went off the road, hit a tree and split the car in half.
Troopers opened one lane of the highway just after 7:15 p.m. and traffic was moving slowly through the area.
Troopers were able to open all lanes of the road before 11 p.m. Saturday.
