Motorcyclist killed in crash near I-4, Volusia deputies say

Cops: Man thrown from motorcycle, not wearing helmet


DELTONA, Fla. – A motorcyclist was killed in a crash near Interstate 4 in Volusia County Tuesday morning.

Volusia deputies say the crash occurred shortly after 7 a.m. along Dirksen Drive near eastbound I-4. The motorcyclist, identified as 51-year-old William Rodgers, was driving westbound on Dirksen Drive when it was struck by another vehicle as the vehicle turned left to get onto the I-4 ramp, according to the report.

Rodgers, who wasn't wearing a helmet, was thrown from his bike and taken to the hospital, where he died. 

The driver of the vehicle and her passenger were not injured.

Deputies are investigating the cause of the crash. It's not clear if charges will be filed.
