Motorcyclist killed in crash with van on Colonial Drive, FHP says

Victim identified as 58-year-old Orlando man

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A fatal crash shut down eastbound lanes of East Colonial Drive on Tuesday afternoon in Orange County for hours

The Florida Highway Patrol said around 4 p.m., Jose Sanchez, 24, was driving a 2013 Ford van east on Colonial Drive in the left lane. A 58-year-old Orlando man was driving a motorcycle in the same direction in the middle lane.

Troopers said the motorcyclist attempted to move into the left lane and his leg made contact with the right, rear side of the van, causing his motorcycle to overturn.

The driver of the motorcycle, identified as William Forbes, 58, was ejected from the vehicle and died from his injuries.

Sanchez and a passenger were not injured in the crash.

The eastbound lanes were closed at the 6300 block of East Colonial Drive as the investigation continued for hours. Lanes were reopened just after 6:30 p.m.
