18-year-old accused of raping girl in van, Orlando police say

Man gave girl ride home from concert, according to police

ORLANDO, Fla. – An 18-year-old man was arrested on allegations of raping a girl under the age of 17.

The Orlando Police Department said that on May 9, a teen girl and her friend attended a concert in downtown Orlando called "Reggae on the Block."

While at the concert, the girl's friend started feeling ill and wanted to leave. The girl said she decided to stay and get a ride home with a mutual friend, identified as Marshall Scott Derr, 18, from Orlando, police said.

Officers said that after Derr dropped off another young man at his home, he drove a couple of blocks, stopped his van and got into the back with the girl.  He then proceeded to sexually assault the girl, according to police.

Derr also took photos of the girl and extorted her days later, officers said.

Police were notified later that night and investigators started working on the case, according to police.

Derr was arrested Thursday on several charges, including lewd/lascivious molestation of someone under the age of 18, sexual performance by a child, extortion and sexual battery on a child 12-17 by a person 18 or older.

Officers said that Derr was already being held for a violation of probation.
