Orange County schools announce summer construction projects

Summer busiet season for school improvement projects

ORLANDO, Fla. – Orange County schools are quiet with students out for the summer, but this is the busiest season for school improvement and construction projects.

Seventeen projects are underway for Orange County schools.  These projects are working to rebuild and replace things like roofs, fire alarms, and heating. They will be done at 11 schools in the district and will be complete on four of the schools by the beginning of the school year.

The projects will cost a total of $7.6 million and are being funded by half-penny sales tax.

The district also plans to open seven elementary schools this fall.  Two of them will serve as relief for overcrowded schools in the district.  Five will be existing schools that are being replaced or renovated.

These seven schools will cost about $110 million and will be funded through sales tax and impact fees.
