Suspects arrested after stealing purse at 7-Eleven

Woman had's purse stolen from her vehicle while she pumped gas

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Two people suspected in a robbery at a 7-Eleven Friday were apprehended a short time later by Rockledge police, according to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.

Police say a 16-year-old boy, from Cocoa, approached a woman at the 7-Eleven at 5700 North Wickham Road and took her purse from her vehicle after she stopped to pump gas. Surveillance video from the store shows Sanders entering the driver's side of the victim's vehicle and removing the purse.

Local 6 News partner Florida Today says the video also shows the boy and the second suspect, 19-year-old Corwyn Mitchell, of Cocoa, fleeing the scene in a gold Toyota 4Runner.

A short time later, Rockledge police officers spotted the SUV on Fiske Boulevard. They attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the suspects fled the scene. They were taken into custody after they crashed on Avondale Road.

Police say the duo had previously tried to enter two other vehicles in the 7-Eleven parking lot. Those victims have not yet been identified, and police are asking that others who may have been victims forward to help with the investigation.

Mitchell was taken to the Brevard County Jail. He is being held without bond and has been charged with robbery, battery, burglary of conveyance and theft.

The 16-year-old is currently in the Brevard Juvenile Detention Center and faces robbery, battery, burglary of conveyance, theft and felony violation of probation charges as part of a sentence from a previous burglary.
