Local 6 joins 'Surge' to help eliminate veteran homelessness

Central Florida Commission on Homelessness launches new initiative

ORLANDO, Fla. – Local 6 is working closely with the Central Florida Commission on Homelessness to help eliminate homelessness in our area.

In February, Local 6 produced a 30-minute special showcasing the Commission's plan to eliminate homelessness.

Now, Local 6 is helping in their new effort that is working to eliminate all veteran homelessness in Central Florida by the end of 2015.  The plan is called the "Surge."

The "Surge" begins with a call for volunteers who will join the Commission and help hit the streets of Central Florida to identify homeless veterans.

The Commission says, "No hero should sleep on the streets."

Local 6 reviewed the training session for helping homeless veterans on "Flashpoint."

The call for volunteers is ongoing.   To register to volunteer and choose your training session go to www.rethinkhomelessness.org.
