BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – Three men were arrested Tuesday in connection with an ongoing investigation into more than a dozen drug overdoses in Brevard County.

The Brevard County Sheriff's Office said its investigation into 14 overdoses from fentanyl, one fatal, led to the arrest of Cedric Levatt, 28, Kenneth Levatt, 52, and Matthew John Carpenter, 24.

Officials initially believed the drug to be heroin, but on Tuesday, preliminary results determined the substance submitted for analysis was fentanyl.

Experts said fentanyl is extremely dangerous -- 50 more potent than heroin, transmittable even through contact with the skin. It also causes significant respiratory depression.

Cedric Levatt, Kenneth Levatt and Carpenter are all charged with the sale and possession with intent to distribute controlled substances. Kenneth Levatt had an additional charge of grand theft of a firearm.

The three men are being held in the Brevard County Jail.

Cedric Levatt is being held on $160,000 bond, Kenneth Levatt is being held on $170,000 bond and Carpenter is being held on $45,000 bond.
