INDIAN HARBOR BEACH, Fla. – A body found in a parked car at a beachside Walmart late Wednesday had apparently been there for several days, according to the Melbourne Police Department.

Local 6 News partner Florida Today says the unidentified remains, possibly of a man in his late 50s or 60s, were discovered at around 4 p.m. as shoppers streamed in and out of the Wal-Mart at the corner of Eau Gallie Boulevard and State Road A1A in Indian Harbour Beach.

"Right now it doesn't appear to be foul play," said Lt. Steve Sadoff, spokesman for the Melbourne Police Department, which covers a portion of beachside Brevard. "But the body had been there a couple of days from what I understand."

Crime scene investigators quickly located the car, with its windows rolled up and sitting in the hot summer sun, and say it simply may have escaped the attention of workers and shoppers.

Police had not received any missing persons reports that corresponded with the person found in the vehicle.

"It's sad, but sometimes it does happen where you have people who pass away in a car and you find them a few days later," Sadoff said.

The remains were turned over to the medical examiner's office in Rockledge.
