Mother charged with manslaughter in baby's drowning

Brandi Dyal arrested Wednesday

OCALA, Fla. – A 40-year-old mother has been arrested following the drowning of her son in April.

Ocala police took Brandi Adele Dyal into custody Wednesday evening and charged her with manslaughter.

Police said she was passed out from drug use when her 20-month-old son drowned in an inflatable pool.

The incident happened on April 25 at a home off Northeast 44th Avenue in Ocala. Police arrived to find Dyal performing CPR on the boy.

According to police, Dyal told them she gave two of her children juice then went back to sleep that morning. Dyal told police she woke up when one of the children was yelling "Mommy, Mommy" through the bedroom window. Her daughter called 911.

The pool was said to be a Summer Escapes 15-foot, quick-set ring pool, about 30 inches deep.

Police also noted the home appeared unkept, with several hazards in the home, including smaller televisions on top of larger ones.

Police said Dyal had been using drugs in the time frame leading up to the drowning.

The baby's father had left for work and had told her to watch the children.

Dyal was booked into the Marion County Jail on a $30,000 bond. ?She was released on Thursday morning.
