Man arrested in fatal Orlando apartment shooting
Cops: Jean Rodriguez-Mercado, 19, faces first-degree murder with firearm charge
ORLANDO, Fla. – A man has been arrested in connection to a fatal shooting at an apartment complex, Orlando police said.
Jean C. Rodriguez-Mercado, 19, faces charges in the killing of Amos Ortiz, 21, that happened at 12:50 a.m. Thursday at the Meadow Woods Apartments on Curry Ford Road.
During the incident, Ortiz suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead several hours later at Orlando Regional Medical Center, police said.
Ortiz's dog, Sky, a pit bull mix, was shot twice during the incident. However, she survived, according to Orlando police.
Rodriguez-Mercado turned himself in Friday morning. Police said he was taken to the Orange County Jail on charges of first-degree murder with a firearm and aggravated animal cruelty.
