MARION COUNTY, Fla. – Drugs, a stolen firearm and cash were seized after deputies arrested a man at a local hotel, the Marion County Sheriff's Office said.

A detective found a vehicle at a hotel on Southwest College Road that belonged to a wanted person who had an active felony warrant.

Authorities confirmed Mathew Timm, 23, rented a room at the hotel and was the only occupant, deputies said.

While attempting to make contact, a detective could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from Timm's room, according to the Sheriff's Office. As detectives set up for surveillance, detectives obtained a narcotics search warrant for the room.

A short time later, Timm was encountered and taken into custody without incident, deputies said.

The search warrant was executed for his room, where detectives found 19 grams of heroin, 286 grams of marijuana, prescription narcotics, cocaine, a Taurus .38 special -- which deputies said is stolen from the agency -- and $3,197 in cash, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Chris Blair said this type of undercover investigative work is what has contributed to lowering crime rate almost 10 percent.

"We are proud of the hard work and dedication of these officers, and look forward to seeing the future impact on crime in our community," Blair said.
