ORLANDO, Fla. – It's safe to say if you've driven on International Drive over the past four decades, you've would probably remember the large iconic McDonald's off of Sand Lake Road. But these Golden Arches are now getting a very big face-lift and it may be coming sooner than you think.

The McDonald's, built back in 1976, is joining fellow I-Drive attractions like the Orlando Eye, and the Fun Spot, in revamping the area into a world-famous entertainment destination.
Teresa Jacobs, the mayor of Orange County, talked about her excitement of adding this McDonald's to the list of renovations on the strip.
"This is going to be a McDonald's you never imagined, with it fitting perfectly with everything you see on I-Drive. Our whole vision is to reinvent the I-Drive district to not only create a global destination district for our visitors, but to become a local entertainment district for our own citizens that live here" she said.
It was out with the old and in with the new, as they broke ground down Monday morning. The new building will go up next door while they demolish the almost forty year old McDonald's to make room for a parking lot.
"This new establishment will be one of a kind in our McDonald's system. We're going to continue to have the games, with an expanded menu. The building will even have huge Ronald on the side that will be lit up in a unique way. It will be very different and it's going to be the place to be" said Karen Garcia, the VP and GM of the McDonald's Florida Region.
This new Mickey-D's will expand over 19,000-square-feet, with a double-lane drive through and self order kiosk; where you can order new gourmet meals and create your taste burgers. Along with the traditional food choices, new pasta dishes will be offered along with wood oven pizzas.
The "worlds largest entertainment McDonald's" should be completed by February of next year.
