Boil-water alert issued for homes in Volusia lifted

Loss of water pressure affected homes in DeBary, Orange City

DeBARY, Fla. – A precautionary boil-water notice that had been issued for all Volusia County Utilities customers in DeBary and Orange City was lifted Thursday at 3 p.m.

The notice, which affected about 7,500 homes, was given after the county's water treatment plant in DeBary experienced a temporary loss in pressure around 4:10 a.m. Wednesday due to a mechanical failure. Pressure was later fully restored at the facility, officials said.

Volusia County Utilities provides water to all homes in DeBary that do not have private wells. Orange City provides water to most customers, while the county provides water to a small percentage of homes and businesses. Homeowners and businesses in DeBary and Orange City that receive water bills from the county were affected by the boil-water notice.

The Volusia County Water Resources and Utilities Division is conducted bacteriological sampling of the water system. Now that the notice has been rescinded residents can resume normal use.
