Carjacking leads to double fatal crash in DeLand, Volusia deputies say

Suspected carjacker, female passenger killed in crash

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Two people were killed after a carjacking at a DeBary car wash ended in a crash in DeLand Thursday morning.

Volusia County deputies said a woman was washing her car at the DeBary Car Wash at 11:30 a.m. on South Charles R Beall Bouevard when a man jumped in her car and sped off.

Responding officers followed the car to DeLand, but the pursuit was discontinued before the vehicle crashed in front of the RC Hill Mitsubishi on South Woodland Boulevard, according to the report.

Deputies said the carjacker picked up a female passenger at some point and deputies found both the man and woman dead inside of the vehicle after the crash.

The stolen vehicle also crashed into other vehicles, injuring several others, but none believed to be life-threatening.

Deputies say they were investigating the suspect, who was involved in a "serious and potentially violent" incident that prompted this chase.
