The woman's brown van was traveling in the southbound lane when it apparently rolled over and came to rest near the median, according to Wanda Diaz of the Florida Highway Patrol.

Witnesses told sheriff's deputies that a woman, possibly in her 50s, with salt-and-pepper hair was seen getting out of the overturned vehicle wearing a tank top or bikini top and with a bloody head. No roadblocks were reported. Authorities said there was no one else in the van.

The woman has not been identified, and deputies tried to locate her along the roadway. Authorities have also contacted area hospitals to see if anyone matching her description has come in for treatment. It was also not known if the woman got a ride from another motorist and left the scene, officials reported.

The bigger mystery: Investigators don't know why she would have left the scene.

Diaz said the call was being treated as a hit-and-run' and that Florida Highway Patrol troopers are continuing to investigate the crash. "The driver is not there," Diaz said. "The sheriff's office is there and is assisting. They're getting the vehicle towed."

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call 321-633-7162.
