No criminal charges for woman who accidentally shot, killed boyfriend during gun lesson

DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. – Police have determined on Tuesday no criminal charges will be filed against the woman who accidentally shot and killed her boyfriend while learning to use a rifle in August.

Daytona Beach Shores officers said Robert F. Branton, 31, died in the shooting, which happened around 12:30 a.m. in the 3600 block of South Atlantic Avenue.

Officials said the 24-year-old woman, who lived with Branton, called authorities and said Branton was trying to show her how to use the rifle when she accidentally shot him in the leg.

Branton was taken to Halifax Hospital Port Orange and was pronounced dead, officials said.
