OVIEDO, Fla. – Seminole County Public Schools voted on Tuesday unanimously to terminate the Oviedo High School baseball coach and teacher who officials say was having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Harold Hitt was suspended without pay last month after allegations surfaced that he had an inappropriate relationship with a female student. He was terminated Tuesday night at a board meeting.

Hitt said the exchanges with the student were not romantic. Officials say Hitt exchanged 124 private Facebook messages with the 18-year-old female student over the course of a year.

The district said many of the messages crossed the line, including, "I still love ya," "my little bae," "hugs needed."

Two female students defended Hitt's use of slang in front of the board, saying that he speaks to them "at our high school level."
