Man exposed himself while driving in DeLand, woman says

27-year-old man denies exposing himself in report

DeLAND, Fla. – A woman said she made a creepy find while driving. She reported to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office a man was exposing himself as he drove alongside her Thursday.

The 43-year-old woman said she noticed him Thursday afternoon on State Road 427 near Dr. Martin L. King Parkway in DeLand.

The woman then called 911 and followed him. He was in a white Ford Expedition.

The dispatcher asked, "911, what's your emergency?"

"I'm not sure if this is something police would take care of or not, but this guy has pulled up next to me. He's in front of me now," the woman said to the 911 dispatcher.

What the woman said that guy was doing drove her to call 911, while handling it with some levity.

"Is that, like, normal? [laughs] Or something that somebody can get in trouble for? I mean, he's clearly trying to stay next to me in my vehicle. I mean, it's kind of gross," she told the dispatcher.

In the Volusia County Sheriff's Office report, the woman said when she tried to slow down, he slowed down with her. When she sped up, he sped up, keeping pace with her showing her his sexual organs.

"He may be one of those guys that goes back and forth and just does this constantly, who knows, you know what I mean? If it's a habitual thing, obviously he needs to be stopped," the woman said.

The woman, who was not identified because of the nature of the case, then took it upon herself to get the man caught, a report said. She followed him inconspicuously for nearly 16 minutes all while remaining on the phone. At one point, he pulled into the Race Trac gas station on Howland Boulevard near I-4 before driving off.

"Well, hold on, hold on, now where is he going?" she told the dispatcher.

The man was eventually caught, but not arrested. Deputies decided to forward the case to the State Attorney's Office. That office will decide if he will be charged with exposure of sexual organs.

In the report, the 27-year-old man denies exposing himself.
