Man struck, killed trying to cross Kissimmee street

Jacob Velazquez, 35, died at scene, FHP says

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – A 35-year-old man was struck by a van and killed early Monday while trying to cross a street in Osceola County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said Jacob Velazquez, of Kissimmee, died in the crash, which happened around 5:30 a.m. on OBT near Hilda Street in Kissimmee.

According to the FHP, a 2011 Ford van driven by a 39-year-old Kissimmee man was headed south on OBT and struck Velazquez, who was not in a crosswalk or at an intersection.

Velazquez died at the scene, troopers said.

The fatal crash remains under investigation.
