Orlando police investigate apparent murder-suicide at hotel

2 men found shot to death in parking lot of Ramada Suites

ORLANDO, Fla. – Two men died Friday evening in an apparent murder-suicide at an Orlando hotel, according to the Orlando Police Department.

Police said Terry Compher, 56, shot Larry Merryman, 57, before turning the gun on himself around 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Ramada Suites at 7500 Augusta National Drive.

Witnesses were present during the shootings and were interviewed, but police have not said what led to the incident.

Police told guests checking into the Ramada Suites to walk around the parking lot because of the crime scene. Visitors watched from their hotel rooms as police collected evidence below.

News 6 spoke with one witness who said he saw a man with a bike talking on his phone and apparently hiding behind a dumpster, which was later roped off by police tape. Moments later, the witness heard two gunshots, and the man on the bike was dead in the parking lot, along with the other man.

Guests were told that family members were involved in the shooting.

"The clerk behind the desk when we first checked in, she said it's two people.  (It) seems they're family and they both died," Simon Broughton said.

No other details have been released.
