DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A 32-year-old woman was arrested Monday in Daytona Beach on allegations that she encouraged her 9-year-old daughter to fight another girl at a school bus stop.
Tanzania Brazel was arrested on charges of principal to child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
According to Daytona Beach police, a girl told another child not to talk to Brazel's daughter, who ran home and told her mother that her backpack had been taken.
Brazel drove her 7-year-old daughter back to the bus stop, parked her car so it blocked the bus from leaving and yelled for her daughter to fight the other girl, a police report stated.
"She stopped the school bus from leaving and she told her daughter get out of the car and whoop her behind," said Maureen Mompremier.
"Beat her a**, get her! Yeah, get her! Knock her a** out!" the report quoted Brazel as yelling.
"Her daughter really didn't want to fight," Mompremier said. "She was just listening to her mom."
The other girl, Destiny Perez, 9, suffered a bump on her head, police said.
Destiny said she was crying and felt helpless as she was being attacked.
"I couldn't really do nothing because her mom held me down," said Destiny said of Brazel.
Destiny's brother, who tried to stop the fight, suffered an asthma attack when Brazel grabbed him by his backpack and threw him to the ground, according to police.
"The mom grabbed him and just slung him on the floor. I just ran to the little girl and picked her up off the floor. She was very shaken, very scared," said Mompremier.
The children's mother told police that she wanted to press charges against Brazel but not against Brazel's daughter.
Police arrived and Brazel was arrested and taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail. She was later released on a $1,750 bond.
"This lady is dangerous -- not only to the victims, but to herself and her kids," Mompremier said.
The incident was captured on Daytona Beach police officers' body cameras, but it has not been released.
