Armed 'career offender' arrested in unincorporated Cocoa, deputies say

COCOA, Fla. – Deputies arrested an armed man Wednesday who they called a "career offender."

The Brevard County Sheriff's Office was called to the area of 5135 US-1 after witnesses reported a man armed with a gun.

Deputies said the suspect, Justin Huggins, 29, ran from them and threw a gun.

Deputies said they were able to catch Huggins with the help of several citizens.

The gun, which was recovered by Deputy Chaston Williams, was reported stolen Sept. 13 during an armed robbery in Port St. John.

Huggins is charged with carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon, armed burglary, grand theft of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

He was taken to the Brevard County Jail, where he was not granted bail.
