Flagler teenager arrested 2 months after nationwide warrant issued

Zaire Roberts, 17, charged with attempted first-degree murder in shooting in July

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – A Flagler teenager was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder early Thursday morning , nearly two months after a shooting in Palm Coast left Phillip Haire, 18, critically injured.

Zaire Roberts, 17, was processed at the Flagler County Jail and taken to the Division of Youth Services in Daytona Beach with no bail allowed. A nationwide warrant for Roberts' arrest was signed Aug. 17, but he eluded authorities until Wednesday.

"(Flagler County Sheriff's Office) would like to thank the U.S. Marshals Service for their assistance in locating Roberts who fled to Cleveland, Ohio, shortly after the shooting,'' Corporal Nate Koep said.

Roberts also fled to Atlanta before turning himself in to detectives, Koep said.

The shooting was reported on July 28 when witnesses said a group of men were fighting outside a Palm Coast home. Haire was found abandoned in the roadway with injuries to his abdomen and was airlifted to Shands Hospital In Jacksonville. Haire was recently released from a rehabilitation center and has recovered from his injuries.
