Missing Cocoa Beach boy found safe in bushes

COCOA, Fla. – A missing 11-year-old Cocoa Beach boy was found safe Friday after falling asleep under a tarp, according to police.

A woman and her daughter searching for Cole Monda found him on Cedar Avenue, police said.

Police said Cole returned home later than he should have Thursday and thought he was going to be in trouble.  He went to an area near Cedar Avenue and Formosa Drive and sought shelter from rain under a tarp and fell asleep, police said.

Cocoa Beach police said Cole had last been seen around 6 p.m. Thursday within a few blocks of his home on Oak Avenue. He was reported missing hours later when he did not return home, police said.

Cocoa Beach police, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Brevard County Sheriff's Office assisted in the search.
