Volusia County man charged with killing grandma ruled incompetent to stand trial

Grandson charged in New Smyrna Beach woman's death

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – The man charged with murder in the death of his grandmother has been ruled incompetent to stand trial, officials said on Tuesday.

Patrick Campbell will be transferred to a state hospital to restore competency for future proceedings, according to the state attorney's office.

Darlene Robertson, 64, was found unresponsive inside of her home on DeSoto Drive by her family in March, according to New Smyrna Beach police.

Campbell, Robertson's grandson and the person of interest in her death, surrendered himself to agents after a nearly 24 hour search.

Campbell was charged with first-degree premeditated murder, robbery with a deadly weapon and grand theft of a vehicle. He was given no bond for the murder charge and $15,000 for the grand theft charge.
