Woman, 71, killed in Marion County house fire

Fire crews say 1 escaped fire, 1 killed

SILVER SPRINGS, Fla. – A 71-year-old woman was killed in a house fire in Silver Springs early Thursday morning, according to Marion County Fire Rescue.

The fire was reported at a home on the 2300 block of SE 175th Terrace Road just before 2:30 a.m. Thursday.

Fire Rescue said they arrived to find a 1,600-square-foot concrete block home 50 percent involved in flames.

71-year-old Paulette Martin died the fire, officials said. A 42-year-old was able to escape and is a friend of the family, officials said. Martin was receiving hospice care and had limited mobility, according to deputies.

The Florida State Fire Marshal's Office and Marion County Sheriff's Office will investigate the fire.
