Officer falsely claimed working extra hours, Orlando police say

Officer charged with grand theft, under internal investigation

ORLANDO, Fla. – An Orlando police officer has been arrested on Thursday after police say he was claiming to work extra duty hours, but was not actually completing the shifts.

Officer Bryant Almeida has been charged with grand theft and financial scheme to defraud after a 2012 report from the manager at Highland Oaks Apartments stated that Almeida wasn't on property when he was supposed to be on duty at the complex.

Meanwhile, Almeida was being paid by the city for the shifts and an investigation found he was submitting pay invoices to the city for the work between June 2011 and August 2012.

He has been taken to Orange County Jail and is under internal investigation. It's not clear if he will be suspended after he is released.
