Helicopter catches package thieves in the act, Orange deputies say

4 teens charged with burglary in Windermere package thefts

WINDERMERE, Fla. – Orange County deputies arrested four teens they say stole a package from a house in Windermere on Thursday, prompting a helicopter chase. Deputies said a neighbor inside of the Enclave at Berkshire Park subdivision reported the package theft at 2 p.m. on Thursday.

According to the witness, a car stopped at the home when an occupant ran up to the front of the house, took a package from the steps, then  drove away.

"We had a really conscious neighbor look outside, saw it was going on, had his wife call 911 while he went out, got a description of the car and a license plate," Jane Watrel, public information officer for the Orange County Sheriff's Office, said.

The sheriff's office helicopter spotted the vehicle as it drove west from County Road 535 and Fiquette Road. Deputies said the helicopter captured the suspects driving into an apartment complex off of Summerport Village Parkway and stealing another package from the front porch of an apartment.

Ground units stopped the vehicle in the Keenes Pointe subdivision and arrested Brent Schwenneker, 19; Alexander Losada, 18; Antone Fernandez, 18; and Hannah Decker, 17; on burglary charges.

"This is bold and brazen and we want people to look at this and realize it could happen to them," Watrel said.

OCSO is suggesting homeowners schedule delivery pick ups, have a friend or neighbor sign for them, or send your packages to your workplace.

"Anything to try to thwart these guys because as you can see from the video they're out there and they're not afraid to go right up to the doorstep and steal something from you," Watrel said.
