MELBOURNE, Fla. – A person riding in a car in Melbourne was shot in the buttocks Sunday night when someone opened fire on the car, police said.

The shooting happened around 8:05 p.m. on Leonard Weaver Boulevard.

According to Melbourne police, a vehicle carrying three people was traveling south when a person fired numerous shots at the car. Several bullets struck the car and caused a superficial wound to the buttocks of a passenger in the back seat, police said.

No other details about the passenger's condition were released.

According to police, another vehicle was located nearby and appeared to contain a significant amount of marijuana.

An investigation is ongoing.
