Getting Results Award spotlights Longwood based charity 'Feeding Children Everywhere'

Non-profit provided meals for over 17-million people last year

LONGWOOD, Fla. – This week's Getting Results Award spotlights the Longwood based charity, Feeding Children Everywhere.

Feeding Children Everywhere provided over 17 million meals to children and families worldwide last year.

The non-profit organizes events where groups pack nutritious meals made up of rice, lentils, dehydrated vegetables and Himalayan salt.

"We're about community involvement, that's our model, that's our mission," says founder Don Campbell, who was presented with the award. He continues, "We want to mobilize and empower people, to provide and assemble these healthy meals for hungry kids."

Each meal can be prepared for as little as 25 cents each, the cost paid through fundraising.

Campbell started the foundation five years ago after discovering the kids in his own neighborhood were going without meals.

"We do mobile events all over the world, literally from here to Hong Kong," he says.

What started as a small idea quickly blossomed. The foundation now has offices in California Connecticut and Texas.

When News 6 toured the Longwood office, a local middle school was in the process of packing over 5-hundred meals. Half of them were loaded into a shipping container along with thousands of others headed to Haiti.

Event staff calls the volunteers, "hunger heroes."

"The coolest thing is to see the life you're directly responsible for saving," Campbell says. "That's what keeps you going."
