According to Capt. Rich Cordeau of the West Melbourne Police Department, the incident was reported to police on Saturday.

“The damage likely occurred Friday evening into Saturday morning, the early morning hours,” Cordeau said.

Cordeau said preliminary estimates of the damage are “upwards of $10,000.”

“That’s including the repair to the water fountain, the man hours to clean up the landscaping as well as to re-sod the athletic turf,” said Cordeau, who added that mulch had to be reapplied and swept off the sidewalk.

Before the incident, Cordeau said, police received a patrol area request because a “much milder case of this occurred previously” involving three-wheelers or four-wheelers on the turf.

Because of the amount of damage done, the case was assigned to a detective and the department is investigating "several leads," according to Cordeau.
