PALM COAST, Fla. – Palm Coast Deputy Fire Chief Jerry Forte rescued an elderly man who fell into his swimming pool earlier Wednesday, according to city officials.

Forte was driving in a neighborhood when he received a 911 call about the man and was able to respond within minutes.

Forte jumped into the pool and pulled out the man who was confused, according to a news release from the City of Palm Coast.

"Palm Coast Fire Department crews from Station 25 arrived shortly after and took over patient care until the man could be transported to the hospital by Flagler County EMS. A Palm Coast firefighter-paramedic also accompanied the man in the ambulance to assist with the rescue," officials said in a news release.

The Palm Coast Fire Chief praised Forte for acting quickly and preventing what could have been a tragedy.

“Kudos go to out to Chief Forte,” said Chief Mike Beadle.
