Hit-and-run driver in custody after crashing into Orlando house, FHP says

Crash started as hit-and-run investigation, troopers say

ORLANDO, Fla. – A driver who was involved in a hit-and-run crash was taken into custody after troopers say he crashed his vehicle into a house in Orlando on Wednesday afternoon.

The crash was reported at South Rio Grande Avenue and 19th Street just before 3 p.m. Troopers said the vehicle was on southbound Rio Grande Avenue when the driver lost control and crashed into the house.

Florida Highway Patrol said the crash began as a separate hit-and-run crash on West Colonial Drive and as Orlando Police Department was trying to apprehend the driver, the vehicle crashed into the home.

One person was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center as a trauma alert, according to Orange County Fire Rescue. Authorities said no one was injured inside of the home and later said that the person that was injured was from the original hit-and-run crash.

The 27-year-old driver was taken into custody by OPD. No passengers were in the vehicle.

News 6 helicopter Sky 6 flew over the scene as the four-door 20156 Mazda appeared to be almost entirely in the home.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
