Orlando mom upset cars illegally passing school bus

Cars caught on camera speeding past buses with lights on and stop signs out

ORLANDO, Fla. – A local mom is taking action and getting results because she is fed up no one is cracking down on drivers illegally passing school buses.

Angii Rosa says her daughter was almost hit by a car while crossing the street Wednesday morning to catch her school bus. Her mother caught the incident on camera.

"My daughter was right there next to the car and the car just decided to go," Rosa said.

Rosa says she recorded several cars ignoring the school bus' flashing lights and stop signs at the corner of Metro Park Circle and Old Park Lane in Metrowest.

Rosa says most of the incidents happen in the morning. She says she has seen many cars drive right past the bus as students cross the street. She tells News 6 this has been happening for years.

"People should be aware of the laws with the stop signs on the on the bus," she said. "When the red lights and the signs come out, you need to stop."

But Rosa says they're not. She is worried for her daughter and the other students' safety. This is a bus stop for a local elementary, middle, and high school

"No incidents have happened to my knowledge, but it's only a matter of time until something does happen."

That is why she reached out to News 6 to get results.

"I'm hoping that people around here will see that it is a problem and they need to stop if it is them," Rosa said.

News 6 spoke to Orlando Police and Orange County Public Schools to see if they are aware of this. Both say they are looking into it.
The school district adds transportation officials are looking into the violations and thanked News 6 for sharing the information. It says transportation officials will work with OCPS District Police to coordinate with local law enforcement on any possible actions.

Rosa is hoping drivers will pay more attention and stop for the bus.
"I want change. I want something to be done with it and hopefully it can happen," she said.
