Brush fire ignites in Oak Hill near homes

OAK HILL, Fla. – Volusia County firefighters worked to contain a brush fire that ignited in Oak Hill on Monday.

The fire started out at about half an acre, but had grown to nearly 10 acres in the area near Highlander Avenue and Brooks Circle, according to officials.

The Florida Forest Service public information officer said that four structures were endangered, two of which were homes and the other two were sheds or barn structures.

As of 6 p.m., the fire was 85 percent contained, according to officials.

Crews on scene told News 6 part of the fire is burning in a marsh and they were unable to get to it.

The Volusia County Professional Firefighters Association said the fire had structures in danger and described it as "fast-moving."

No other details were immediately available.
