9-year-old airlifted to Orlando hospital with minor injuries

COCOA, Fla. – A 9-year-old boy's leg was run over by an SUV Tuesday morning in the car line at a Brevard County elementary school, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The boy was airlifted to Arnold Palmer Hospital as a precaution, troopers said. Troopers said he suffered minor injuries.

The incident happened around 7:55 a.m. at Saturn Elementary School in Cocoa.

According to the FHP, a 42-year-old Cocoa woman driving an Isuzu SUV dropped off two children, one of whom fell as he got out. The other child helped the boy and closed a door, so the woman thought both were clear of the vehicle, troopers said.

As she drove off, the right rear tire ran over the boy's leg, the FHP said.

The accident remains under investigation, and it's not known if the driver will face charges.

The relationship between the driver and boy was not disclosed.
