Cops: Man shot daughter's boyfriend, hit daughter on head

Verbal altercation ended in gunfire


WEST MELBOURNE, Fla. – A man was charged with attempted murder after West Melbourne police say he shot his daughter's boyfriend and struck his daughter in the head on Tuesday morning.

Felix Vera Jr., 47, has been charged with attempted murder with a firearm, aggravated battery/domestic, tampering with a witness by hindering communication, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and shooting in a dwelling.

Police said a verbal altercation escalated inside of the home on the 200 block of East Haven Haven just after 6:15 a.m. Vera fired a revolver at his daughter's live-in adult boyfriend, striking him in the neck, and hit his daughter in the head with the firearm, according to police.

Vera then prevented his daughter from calling 911 by taking her cellphone, police said.

The shooting victim was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Vera's daughter refused transport., according to police.

Vera is being held at the Brevard County jail without bond.
