DeLand man gets 7 years for threatening President Obama

Jeremy L. Addison, 24, sentenced to 7 years in federal prison

ORLANDO, Fla. – A DeLand man was sentenced to seven years in federal prison for mailing a letter threatening to kill President Obama and assaulting a U.S. Secret Service agent who investigated the threat.

According to the Department of Justice, Jeremy L. Addison, 24, was awaiting trial for an unrelated charge in Volusia County in September 2014 when he wrote a letter to the president stating, "You’re a dead man…boy I hate swine. I’m the general me…and anthrax, so yes I intend to kill you.”

The DOJ said as the agent was interviewing Addison about the letter, Addison spit in the agent's face and said, "I'm going to kill you, too."

After Addison pleaded guilty to the case on Oct. 13, he then wrote a letter threatening to kill the assistant U.S. attorney handling the case, according to the DOJ. Four days later, Addison apologized for writing that letter.

During his sentencing hearing, a judge determined that Addison had not accepted responsibility for his behavior and sentenced him to seven years in federal prison.
