Seminole County considers ban on bear hunting

County commissioners say hunt does not cut down on nuisance bears

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – Less than five months after Florida's first statewide bear hunt, a Central Florida county is considering banning the hunt.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Seminole County commissioners believe that the hunt did little to reduce the number of nuisance bears.

Officials said that out of the more than 3,000 bears killed during the October hunt, only four of the bears were in Seminole County.

However, officials from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said state law overrides any county law.
