Guduru admitted to fatally shooting her 17-year-old daughter, Chetana, in their home in 2014. Guduru also shot herself in the chest but recovered a short time later and was arrested on murder charges.

Before the shooting, investigators said Guduru emailed her brother, telling him that she was going to harm herself and her daughter, who was an international baccalaureate student at Seminole High School in Sanford.

According to police, Guduru said she shot her daughter because she believed that there would be no one to care for her after Guduru killed herself. It's not clear why she wanted to kill herself.

Guduru told the judge that she wants to be placed in a faith-based prison. The judge said he would forward her request to the Florida Department of Corrections.

Guduru initially pleaded insanity, and in August she asked for the death penalty. In January, she rejected a plea deal that offered a 30-year sentence.
