Brevard student to compete in national spelling bee

Dhyana Mishra, 11, to head to Washington, D.C. in May

WEST MELBOURNE, Fla. – Thanks to one word and countless hours of studying, Dhyana Mishra of West Melbourne will head to Washington, D.C., in May for the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

According to News 6 partners, Florida Today, Mishra clinched the title of Spelling Bee champ on Wednesday during the Regional Spelling Bee in Seminole County.

"I'm really excited," Dhyana said, adding, "I was the runner-up at the regional Spelling Bee last year."

To help her remember words, the 11-year-old student would "air-type" them with her fingers.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee will be May 22-27 with the onstage rounds of competition May 25 and 26.
