Most charges against Polk sheriff dropped in Rebecca Sedwick suit

9 of 11 charges dropped

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A federal judge has dismissed nine of 11 counts in a lawsuit against Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.

The lawsuit was filed by the family of a 13-year-old who was arrested on charges of aggravated stalking and bullying in the suicide death of 12-year-old Rebecca Sedwick.

The charges against the 13-year-old were later dropped, but the lawsuit claims that Judd violated the girl's civil and privacy rights when he publicly accused her of cyberbullying.

However, according to the Orlando Sentinel, a judge ruled that law enforcement has immunity for remarks made to the media during investigations.

Sedwick fell to her death from an abandoned cement silo in 2013.
